Rant Sans is a monolinear typeface—meaning that it maintains a consistent stroke weight throughout the letterforms. It was built on a strict [and golden] grid. The vector paths that create each letterform have a minimal amount of anchor points; the bezier handles were meticulously placed at 45 and 90 degree angles (which is simply good practice). When a monolinear typeface is properly designed, usually the stroke weight must be slightly varied in certain aspects of the forms to maintain legibility; the Rant family does not do this. In fact, a few of the standard “guidelines” have been intentionally ignored, even though those exist for good and logical reasons. There are currently 8 weights in the Rant Sans family: 100, 200, 300, 400, 500, 600, 700 and 800. Rant Sans 800 finds personality in its tighter lowercase counter spaces and walking baseline.
